Why Should I Renew?

While STC has recently announced its dues increase, the benefits of belonging to one of the largest professional organization for technical communicators are still tremendous.

Need convincing? Read on to learn about the benefits and reasons to renew with STC.

When you are done, we think you will agree and renew your STC-TC membership today!

Consider this post in STC LinkedIn Group:
"I believe that our STC membership rewards are commensurate with the level of our participation. The more you participate, the more opportunities you have to grow meaningful relationships and contribute to chapter and SIG activities. Active participation is key to developing the skills that enrich our lives and enhance our careers. I was an inactive member for years, with infrequent meeting attendance. Then I volunteered to serve in a chapter leadership role, and things started to happen: in STC and in my career. The more I volunteered, the more money I earned and the more responsibility and compensation I earned in my jobs. I encourage those of you who are "on the fence" to jump in and make a difference in your local chapter, your SIG, and your career!"

Read the discussion in  Sarah O'Keefe's blog from mid-October. Sarah makes an excellent case for renewal, especially for freelance and contract writers.

We know it is tough out there right now. Here are some ideas that may ease the pain for membership payment.

  1. Use the four installment payment methods on your credit or debit card.
  2. Talk with your tax preparer: you may be able to deduct this expense because STC is a professional organization related to your employment field.
  3. If you receive unemployment benefits, membership dues may be reimbursed through Dislocated Workers benefits.
  4. Check out the Full or Subsidy Recovery Packages program by the Society for Technical Communication to help with dues payment.
